And there is only a cat named Dulce to blame. She’s not mine, but I’m not sure that I can resist. I was going to hold fast to being a volunteer without a pet, but what am I supposed to do? I’ve got all this space and it would be pretty great to have a cat to share it with. Luckily the non-profit where I teach English to teens on Wednesdays shipped their latest batch of kittens off to live outside the city last week. So, I didn’t come home with one today.

There might be some drawbacks to getting a pet as a Peace Corps volunteer; however, being native Spanish speakers, local cats are perfect housemates for practicing Spanish. They are very non-judgemental, only taking the occasional swipe  when you make a mistake.

  1. Watch out– Dulce’s person has a way of finding a weakness and exploiting it. take it from a friend who has had a lot of fun that way over the last 27 years.

    1. I’m this learning quickly. She already has me asking around for kittens. It will only be for the best. She’s right that it will be nice to have some company around home.
